I BEGAN THE PRACTICE OF SOCIAL WORK IN 2021, in community & residential mental health. I learned so much from clients about the challenges of navigating life with severe and persistent mental illness, poverty, and discrimination, by building resiliency and connection. I have had the unique opportunity to support youth experiencing first episode psychosis, many of whom were marginally-housed, involved with the legal system, refugees, and living with addiction.
My practice has since included supporting people experiencing acute and chronic mental health concerns in various settings: emergency, crisis, hospital inpatient, community organizations, residential treatment, and clinical work in primary health care. Each and every one of these experiences has fostered personal & professional growth.
MY CURRENT PRACTICE serves children, adolescents, and adults of all ages. I provide support to clients experiencing concerns with their mental health, or wanting to pursue personal growth in areas such as relationships, parenting, emotional development, healthy habits & more.
I'm passionate in my work with people experiencing trauma, building an understanding of the nervous system, trauma activation, and skills to self-regulate. I work with First Responders looking to develop healthy coping strategies that promote resilience & longevity in their careers.
Supporting clients experiencing substance and behavioural addictions is a large part of my practice. I'm honoured to be part of this often long & arduous journey of change & recovery, meeting clients wherever they happen to be: sober-curious, interested in changing their relationship with substances, contemplating life without addiction, feel they've hit rock-bottom and want to rebuild, or have been navigating addiction on their own for years.
One of my favourite areas of practice is the vibrant world of ADHD: Providing clients with a solid foundation of understanding from which they can explore strategies, experience their traits through a lens of strength, and support the development of a healthier self-image.
I'M A MOM to two very spirited, bright & hilarious kids and one kind-hearted, witty & talented teen. I have a wonderful husband who manages to turn the impossible into possible, fears into encouragement, and big ideas into reality.
In the spirit of both self-care and procrastination, the things I always find time for are reading, podcasts, creating new resources for my practice, and coffee breaks. I like to have an educational or professional development course on the go and recently completed Professional Certificates in Trauma & Addictions through WLU. I am very much looking forward to my next learning adventure, coming up in the fall, EMDR!
CREATING A SPACE THAT FEELS COZY & welcoming has been a wonderful part of establishing my practice. My space is a reflection of my clients' suggestions & ideas (I love to change & rearrange), and I have the world's greatest Art Gallery (binder) filled with creations from the most talented kids.
